Alice Major becomes Alice.Doc

December 2nd, 2019

The University of Alberta conferred an honorary doctorate of letters on Alice Major at its fall Convocation ceremony on November 20th. In her Convocation address (which was to the science and medical faculties), she spoke to the graduands of living in uncertainty as “the greatest privilege the universe gives us. We live right at the boundary where the constraints of the past meet the openness of future. We live in the zone where we must discover new things, and we have to interpret and share those discoveries. What do they mean for how we live our lives, for how we should act?”

She also made sure the science students heard a poem about the quantum superposition of states. Alice’s speech can be viewed here.
