Distinguished Artist Award

January 10th, 2018

Alice Major has been named one of three recipients of the 2017 Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award. The awards, the province’s most prestigious recognition for accomplishment in the arts, are presented every second year. Alice’s co-recipients are:

  • Alex Janvier, the nationally recognized artist and activist, a member of what has been called the “Indian Group of Seven,” whose work has been shown at the National Gallery to great acclaim.
  • Composer John Estacio, whose work has been commissioned and performed by orchestras and opera companies across Canada. His opera, Filumena, has even been featured on a postage stamp.

A video about Alice and her work was made for the awards ceremony.
